GHTC welcomes creation of WHO Essential Diagnostics List

GHTC welcomes a landmark decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish a new Essential Diagnostics List to guide governments on the vital diagnostic tools that should be made available through healthcare systems. Diagnostics are an essential component of delivering quality care, yet currently WHO does not maintain a list of recommended diagnostic tools, as it does for medicines through its Model List of Essential Medicines.

Global Health Technologies Coalition appoints new director

GHTC has named Jamie Bay Nishi as its new director. Currently, Ms. Nishi serves as Managing Director of Devex LIVE at Devex, a media platform for the global development community. She will assume the GHTC director position in late February.

From AIDS to Zika, new report warns stagnant US funding for lifesaving tools against infectious disease threats leaves US and world at serious risk

Even as Congress grapples with the White House on how to fund an emergency response to fight Zika virus, a new report from GHTC warns that overall underfunding for development of lifesaving tools against neglected global diseases is putting the United States and the world at risk, and that emergency funding can’t be allowed to substitute for sustained US investment in research and development (R&D) of global health technologies.

GHTC to host 4/19 Congressional briefing to unveil policy report

GHTC will launch its seventh annual policy report at an April 19 briefing on Capitol Hill. Some of the leading voices in global health will discuss policy actions the US government can take to accelerate development of urgently-needed tools to tackle existing and emerging health challenges, meet global health goals, and prepare today for the epidemics of tomorrow.
