The Doris Mollel Foundation (DMF) is the first and the only nongovernmental organization in Tanzania that works hand in hand with the government and private stakeholders in catering to the needs of premature babies. For seven years, DMF has maintained a consistent record of excellence in serving premature babies and Tanzanians at large. Currently, the organization has donated medical equipment to support preterm health with donations worth more than $435,000 and directly saved more than 13,000 premature babies’ lives. As a permanent member of Tanzania’s Ministry of Health neonatal technical working group, DMF has initiated 13 NICUs, improved 25 NICUs, and has ongoing awareness campaigns with large media companies like Jamii Forums, Clouds FM Radio, ITV, ZBC, Plus TV, and Clouds Plus reaching more than 15 million Tanzanians monthly.

Due to its excellent demonstrated readiness and creativity to drive change for the maternal and child health care from within, the Doris Mollel Foundation chairs and leads the Tanzania Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Coalition and founded the Children and Climate Change Coalition with the United Nations Environment Programme Tanzania. While many CSOs in Tanzania and along the East Africa region aim for the horizon of 2030, with passion and commitment, DMF believes that the challenges facing preterm infants could be put to an end in a few years.
